Have an Awesome Pre-shot Routine with Golf Lessons Derby
Gone are the days of walking into a golf shop and buying a set of clubs off the shelf. 10 years ago I could walk in to my local golf store and there would be hundreds of sets of golf clubs from floor to ceiling that you could buy. You do not see that anymore and the reason for that is most people who buy a set of clubs except complete beginners get fitted.
So what is Golf club fitting?
Length of clubs – First is what length clubs do you need? How tall are you? Commonly people that are over 6ft need longer clubs. If the clubs are too small for you it encourages you to crouch over the ball too much, giving you poor posture and probably a little bit of back ache!
Grip thickness – How big are your hands? Do you need thicker grips? If your glove is a medium or larger the chances are you should have thicker grips on your golf clubs.
Shaft flex – when you hit a golf shot, your ball needs to be spinning at a certain amount of revolutions per minute (rpm). The loft of your club and your shaft really dictates that process. As an example, lets say you hit the ball very low. Choosing a lighter shaft with more flex will have an impact on your ball flight, making you hit it higher. The faster you swing the club, the harder you hit the ball, the more the ball spins the longer it stays in the air…..Simple.
Lie – As you strike the ball and make impact with the ground, your golf club needs to be absolutely flush with the ground, If not you’re making it difficult for yourself to hit the ball straight on a regular basis. If the toe end of the club digs into the ground on impact the club face will simply open sending your ball off line. The opposite of that is the heel of the club digging into the ground sending the ball in the opposite direction. Just one degree out is the equivalent to 10 yards off target. The clubs you buy will be adjusted to your set up and how you hit the golf ball
