Perl CGI Scripts – How To Pull Massive Traffic To Your Website With Dynamic Content

Filed under: Better Traffic @ 9:32 am

I see many new webmasters throw up websites with a few words about what they are offering and call it a day. Months later, these new webmasters find that they haven’t seen more than a few visitors and they are wondering what went wrong. The fact is, they could have helped themselves a lot more had they been using dynamic content on their websites.

You Are Competing For Eyeballs

The sorry state of the matter is that nowadays, you’ve got billions of other websites competing for a limited number of eyeballs. You’ve not only got to stand out from all of those static webpages, but you’ve got to find a way to get your visitors to return again and again.

It’s Not 1996 Anymore

Many new webmasters think that if they build it, the traffic will come. But, although it may have been that way in 1996, it’s not anymore. (1996 was the year I put up my first niche website, way before they were called niche websites. I went out one evening after posting it, and three hours later I came home to find it had been visited more than 101,000 times.) Those were the days!

Perl CGI Scripts To Your Rescue

If you want to make your site really pull massive amounts of visitors and have them return again and again, you need to make your website “sticky”. What this means is that you’ve got to make a website that your visitors will want to return to again and again-like flies to a streetlight. (Just don’t zap your visitors because you want them to return!) To do this, you need to stand out from the rest of the pack. There are several steps you are going to want to take. I’ll explain each one and how static pages compare to dynamic pages in each area.

Get your traffic by getting listed in search engines based on good content.
Perl CGI scripts can help you do this.
Static pages can do this well.

This is an area where static content actually performs well. Search engines love wordy websites that make sense. If you’ve got access to a lot of original information on a particular topic, you’ve got the beginnings of a good static content site. A good dynamic method of getting free content on your website is to allow your visitors to leave a message on a guestbook. Even if they are simply advertising their own sites, they are still adding content to your website that the search engines will love. There are many perl guestbooks available.

Keep your traffic by making a part of your website something that is so useful that it is addictive or “sticky”.
Perl CGI Scripts can help you do this.
This would be difficult to do with a static website.

The ultimate sticky website is the search engine. To deny this is to lie about the fact that you use one just about every time you are online. Most people think that it’s impossible to get started in this area now that Google seems to have firmly implanted itself as number one. This is simple not true since there are many niche areas that could still be dominated. There are many perl search engine scripts available.

Multiply your traffic by encouraging word of mouth advertising.
Perl CGI scripts can help you do this.
This would be difficult to do with a static website.

Another good method of promotion is to have your visitors (who keep coming back because of your search engine or other dynamic content) refer their friends so that they can visit your site over and over. It is said that birds of a feather flock together so if your visitor liked your website, it’s a good bet they know other people who would like it too. There are many perl refer-a-friend scripts available.

Pull your traffic back again by reminding your visitors (and their friends) about your website, and subsequently any products that you are selling.
Perl CGI scripts can help you do this.
Static pages can’t do this at all.

Once you’ve got your content, visitors, and their friends, it’s time to get them to subscribe to your mailing list. Once they are reading your mailing list (make it something they’ll be interested in or they’ll unsubscribe just as fast) you can squeeze in an ad or two for products that you are either selling or are an affiliate for. This is where the traffic can really start to snowball! There are many perl mailing list scripts available.

Protect your e-mail address from spam robots.
Perl CGI scripts can help you do this.
Static pages can’t do this at all.

Make sure that you are not leaving bait for spam robots. If you’ve got your e-mail address displayed on your website in plain view, you’re probably getting a great deal of spam from sites you’ve never even visited. Don’t think that putting the word ‘at’ instead of an ‘@’ symbol is going to stop them…any programmer worth their salt could write a robot that could beat that “security”. The only secure way to allow your visitors to e-mail you without making it easy for spammers to harvest your e-mail address is to use a website contact form. There are many perl contact form scripts available.

Static Pages Will Be Outperformed By Your Dynamic Website

Out of our five methods for driving massive traffic to your website, we’ve just seen that only one of them is easily achievable with static webpages. Which brings us back to our original topic. Why are so many new webmasters still putting together static webpages and wondering why they aren’t getting any visitors? Dynamic content is definitely the way to get lots of traffic to your website.

Yes, every website needs it’s fair share of static content because as we’ve seen, this is how the search engines find and list your website. But that’s only effective for attracting and keeping the search engines’ attention. To attract and keep your visitors’ attention, and to truly drive massive traffic to your website over and over again, you’re going to need some dynamic content to keep them coming back. And that’s exactly the type of work that perl cgi scripts are really good at.

Use Free Articles To Create High Quality Backlinks Part I

Filed under: Better Traffic @ 8:36 am

Nowadays, we have created numerous methods so as to bring about well defined backlinks for a particular web site. On one hand, there is the well-known pattern to use the reciprocal link; on the other hand, some use various directories to place their site to. Moreover, there are persons who take advantage of both of these techniques.

In the recent period of time, an increasing number of people have started to engage the syndication of original articles in order to build their link popularity. A reason for this is the fact that these articles employ permanent links from many pages, chosen by means of keywords and sharing the same topic. Needless to say, there are some steps to be accomplished so that there is a certainty in the syndication of the article, as well as its undoubtable quality.

1)Writing articles of an undoubtable quality

The syndication of the article is always connected to its type. The quality of an article is the first aspect being chosen by webmasters who will reprint it.In addition, the spelling and grammar must be perfect with the aim of covering the widest syndication. As webmasters are in the need of widely-researched and perfectly-written the accent should be placed on all aspects.

Furthermore, the status of ‘the place to put the link in the resource box’ should be surpassed; the purpose of that particular article is to make itself interesting this being a condition for it to be syndicated on the websites with Pagerank and high quality. It is also the syndication of an article which can cause the copying of the article on many websites.

Moreover, the creation of many links comprising of quality articles will be finalized in the growth of a site’s traffic, due to the fact that its popularity will attract a wider audience. The wider the audience is the more accessed will be the resource box.

2)Manually submission of Related sites

Another pattern for an increase of an article’s syndication is to create a form for submitting the related sites. It is well known that best syndications come from high quality sites employing a specific niche not only articles banks. For instance, there are websites which accept only articles which have to do exclusively with the field of business. The webmaster of a site dealing with business will write an article having as main theme ‘business’ and submit it to the above-mentioned sites. As a consequence, the other business sites could take notice of quality article from this field syndicate it on their own sites. This is the way related links appear and improve the search engine of a site.

This are only the first steps for reaching the ultimate level of a high quality article. Watch for the following.

Linking to the Best

Filed under: Better Traffic @ 6:33 am

Be picky about who will link to you; shoot and scatter does not always work.

Just having a website is not enough to get yourself noticed. You will need to do a number of things in order to have your site better known. Here are three ideas that you may want to use.

First, find another business that is a good fit for what you do, and have your information displayed on their site; you will probably also need to display their information on your site. Do not just pick any site to exchange information, make sure they have the same business values as you. I personally do not use other sites unless there is value in it for both parties.

Second, make sure you are active in newsgroups such as Yahoo Groups in your area of expertise. Newsgroups are not a place to tout your business but they are a place to give free advice and get yourself known in the process. Just make sure the group you join and the advice you give fits in with your business model.

Third, you will need to have your website address printed on everything, and I mean everything you give out. The website should be on your business cards, letterhead, envelopes, brochures, white papers, articles you write, on all your advertising materials, on donations, and any business listings. Besides promoting yourself on the web, you need to promote the web on everything you do. You want to drive people to the site to learn more about you and what you do. Just make sure you have a separate website for each line of business.

Some people sell goods on their sites and join a group such as the Commission Junction. Commission Junction allows you to choose what other products you will sell by placing a banner on your site. You can also place your goods in the listings for others to choose. You will not make a great deal of money this way but it is an avenue for selling products.

Linking Strategies That Bring Results

Filed under: Better Traffic @ 7:37 am

Website link popularity is used to indicate how many other web
pages link to your web page. It is calculated by counting the
number of web pages that contain your link, also known as
inbound links.

Proper website linking strategies can help you gain inbound links which in turn can greatly improve your search engine ranking. For this reason, it’s wise to maintain link popularity strategies as part of your overall search engine optimization efforts.

There are several linking techniques and strategies used to
obtain inbound links. Here are a few popular strategies that
just may bring you the results you need:

1. Reciprocal linking

This strategy involves exchanging links with other sites. You put their link on your site, they put your link on theirs. Probably the most common linking strategy, but there are a few do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:

- Link only to sites that have a page rank.
It’s my preference to link to sites that have a page rank of 4
or better, however lower ranking is certainly acceptable.

I don’t, however, recommend linking to sites that have no page
rank at all. Sites that are penalized by the search engines
for spamming or other various reasons will not achieve page
rank, therefore; if you link to them you are liable to be penalized as well. This is not to say that all PR0 sites are being penalized, this is not the case at all, but since you have no way of knowing for sure, it’s safer, in my opinion, to wait until the site gains some sort of page rank before you link to it.

- Look for sites with high page rank but few links. The higher the page rank and the fewer the links, the better. Stay away from link farms, these are typically sites with low or no page rank and many, many links.

- Link only to like sites.
Link to sites that are related to your site’s topic. If your
website is about pet care, link only to sites that are about
pet care.

- Include your best keywords in the title and description that you give to your reciprocal link exchange sites. This creates
association between your keywords and your site.

- Place your very best link exchange sites on your home page.
Don’t overload your homepage with links, however it’s acceptable to include a few high page rank links.

- Try to make sure the links coming into as well as going out from your page are related to the content on your page. Also try to keep the text of the link itself related to your page’s topic.

2. Write articles and submit them to sites that accept articles.

Submit your articles with your resource box containing your
name and website address. Article sites often have high
page rank. Also, if someone decides to use your article on
their site or in their newsletter you’ve just received a new
inbound link.

3. Write product testimonials for products you found worthwhile and make sure the testimonial contains your website address.

You will not only gain an inbound link, you can draw traffic
from those that read your testimonial.

4. Include your own website’s navigation as a linking strategy.

Every page of your site should include links to the rest of
your site. It’s a good idea to include a site map as well.
Keep all your site navigation links consistent on each page.

5. Create useful and unique content on your website that will
compel others to link to you.

This will not only help improve
your link popularity but it will also satisfy the search
engines and very possibly increase your keyword search ranking.

6. Join Forums.

Ask questions and contribute your knowledge. This will allow you to place your site URL in your signature line, which in turn creates an inbound link for you.

Making Tracks

Filed under: Better Traffic @ 2:00 am

Checking your search engine placement progress can be a tedious job, and quite time consuming.

Most articles and information on the subject will lead you to use a service like position agent at bcentral, or another tool that will take a keyword from you and let you know how your site is doing in the top engines under that keyword or keyword phrase. In most cases they only bring back results for the top forty pages of the top 7 engines.

This is a common practice by many and often times it leads to search engine frustration and lack of tracking. Many people fail to find their sites in worthy positioning and constantly rework and resubmit. This is very self defeating and can get you thrown out as a spammer.

People give up and move on to other ways of promoting their sites and leave the hope of Front Page placement behind. Front Page search engine placement to them seems like a waste of time and is often compared to winning the lottery.

I track a little differently. It is much more revealing than any of the usually prescribed methods. It is my goal to help you see the difference, between where you “can be found” and where you are “being found”.

Trying to find out where you *can be* found is the needle inthe haystack approach I outlined above. This involves hours of guessing at what you think the possible keyword combinations are that you may be found under and submitting to the position agents and waiting for a good results. The more indexes you build the more time you can lose with these methods.

There’s even more effort you have to put into inputting keywords to check the progress of your possible placement. If no results yielded yet, then plan on several sessions trying to track down where you can be found. They just don’t index them the as fast as they used to. This is a major pain and you can miss so many keyword phrases that it is an empty approach to finding out anything about your efforts.

Finding out where you *are being* found is a much more effective plan. It tells you what’s working, results come to you, and it tells you how people are thinking to find you. You’re not guessing how you think they should be finding you. You’re learning how your clients think and how they already found you.

Okay, so how do I find out how my visitors find me? I use a simplestatistics tracker on my sites. Your hosting company may provide stats for you check into it. They should include a section for referrers or top referrers. If so your all set. Find a way to access those stats. Check the referrers section and they will tell you how you were found. If it was through a search engine, click on the link and it should bring you to the page you were found on, complete with the keywords used, listed right there. You can check your progress every week and find out where you are popping up.

If your host does not have tracking software go to www.goldstats.com or some other FREE stats place and get yourself a statistics tracker on your site right away!

For me, marketing without referrer stats is like…

…trying to catch a fly in the dark.
